dewalt tools : Experiencing NASCAR life is quite brand

I woke up at 7 a.m. Sunday to my new Tony Stewart alarm clock -- "Gentlemen, start your Engines."

After hitting the snooze once, the roar of the No. 20 Home Depot Chevrolet's engine coaxed me out of bed.

I stumbled over to the bathroom and grabbed my Jimmie Johnson toothbrush to scrub away that awful morning breath.

After a quick shower, I dried myself off with my oversized "Little E" towel, freshly washed by Ron Fellows, he of the Tide Detergent ride.

Now awake, I sauntered into the kitchen, where Kyle Busch grabbed my Kellogg's cereal bowl and poured me a heaping bowl full of Tony the Tiger's Frosted Flakes. Man, it was "Grrreat."

Awake and fed, I needed to get dressed.

I walked over to the suitcase and put on pants, shoes and socks.

I capped the ensemble with a Lowe's T-shit and hat.

Boy, how time was a wastin'.

I grabbed the kids, loaded them up in the UAW-Daimler Chrysler Dodger Charger, ready to hit Infineon Raceway.

But wait. The darn car wouldn't start.

It couldn't be out of gas. I had Casey Mears fill it up the night before with his Texaco Havoline gasoline. Lucky for me, there was a NAPA Auto Parts store right down the street.

So I walked over and asked Michael Waltrip to give me a new interstate battery -- the J.J. Yeley version.

"Oh, and could Scott Riggs come out with some Valvoline?" I asked. "Got to keep the engine humming, you know."

And humming it was, only right as we hit Vallejo we got a flat tire.

So I rolled to The Home Depot where Tony Stewart was able to sell me a can of Fix-a-Flat.

Before we left, Matt Kenseth gave me a good price on a set of DeWalt tools. Finally we pulled into the parking lot.

After taking a Dodge shuttle down to the ComCast Media Center, I grabbed an Infineon pen, a Jimmie Johnson Lowe's notepad, and took off with my boys for some NASCAR adventure.

That adventure cost me so much money, I had to call Brian Vickers to see if he and GMAC financing could get me a second on my mortgage so I could buy lunch.

dewalt tools : Stewart to race at Oregon

It won't be a match race, but you can be sure that the 10,000 fans that are expected to pack Madison International Speedway on Tuesday night will have their eyes glued to two drivers.

Tony Stewart and Cambridge's Matt Kenseth, both former Cup champions, will be the marquee names for the 100-lap First Supply All-Star Challenge.

How big is tomorrow night's event?

About 7,500 advance tickets have already been snapped up. The remaining 2,500 will go on sale at the MIS ticket office at noon tomorrow.

Madison radio station WTSO (1070 AM) plans to broadcast the race live.

Roy Kenseth, Matt's father, is the official promoter for the race. His company, RK Race Promotions, has rented MIS for the night.

It's obvious why Matt Kenseth, who won the 2003 Winston Cup title, is coming to the track. But how did Roy Kenseth land Stewart, a two-time Cup champion?

"Tony's doing me a favor," Roy Kenseth said.

Stewart's appearance is sort of payback for a similar appearance by Matt Kenseth at Eldora Speedway, the legendary Ohio half-mile dirt oval Stewart purchased in 2004.

There was a time in early June when Stewart's actual participation in Tuesday night's race might have been in jeopardy.

Stewart suffered grinding crashes on consecutive days at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Stewart's crash in the Coca-Cola 600 fractured the tip of his right shoulder blade. The following week at Dover, Del., Stewart raced just 38 laps before giving up his seat to relief driver Ricky Rudd.

But Stewart has been cleared to compete in tomorrow night's race.

"It ran across my mind that Tony might not be able to race," MIS promoter Steve Einhaus said.

A pair of Nextel Cup incidents between Stewart and Kenseth helped spike ticket sales. At the season-opening Daytona 500, Stewart threw his Home Depot Chevrolet wildly to the left as a pack of cars screamed toward Turn 3. Kenseth dove toward the grass to avoid the contact, lost control and plowed into the wall, killing his chance of winning the race.

Then, during the Nextel All-Star Challenge in May, Stewart and Kenseth hooked up again, slamming the Turn 2 wall at Lowe's Motor Speedway during the final 20-lap segment of that $1 million race,

Kenseth blamed Stewart for the accident. Stewart responded by calling Kenseth an idiot.

Both drivers claim they've patched things up.

One thing is certain. Neither driver plans to come to MIS and be a non-factor in the 50-mile race.

"They're here to win," Einhaus said. "No one is going to come here to drive around in circles."

Kenseth will drive a 2006 Ford Fusion sponsored by DeWalt Tools, his primary Nextel Cup sponsor. Stewart will drive a Chevrolet Monte Carlo owned and sponsored by Whitewater's Star Packaging.

"There's a ton of interest in this race," Einhaus said.

Now it's up to Stewart and Kenseth to hold up their end of the bargain.

dewalt tools : The contracting king talks about his must-have gear

Here he offers a primer to wannabes on how to keep it to code:

Six-pack of Dewalt tools (cordless drill, impact drill, skill saw, reciprocating saw, grinder, flashlight), $900 — "My most-used tools. Dewalt doesn't pay me to say this, but the reason I love the six-pack is simple: It's all cordless, it's very strong and it's extremely versatile. It makes it easy to do a lot of things with just a small number of tools. They pretty well go with me everywhere."

Dewalt tripod laser level, from $469 — "This is a great tool we didn't have 10 years ago. I can put it on a tripod and spin it around the room to create a perfect line. It's a technological change that's much appreciated by contractors, for how easy it makes things and because it saves time. And if we save time on labour, the customer should save too. At least, that's the way it's supposed to happen."

Bostitch compressor and nail combination kit, $599 — "In the first years of my contracting business, I was big with the hammer and nails. It took me a long time to spend money on a compressor and all the guns. But once I did, I realized how foolish I'd been. Sure, you get a great workout with a hammer and nail, but I can build faster with better tools."

Stanley FatMax Xtreme FUBAR demolition tool, $50 — "I must have 20 different types of hammers, each with its own job. This one is an extreme tool, with claws and pry bars all in one. I can use it for many purposes: smashing down walls and ripping out joints or studding."

Dewalt 10-inch mitre saw, $320 — I remember cutting all my joints on your standard mitre-box with a buck saw, and man, you would sweat like you wouldn't believe. As soon as I bought my first chop saw, it was like, "Wow, why didn't I do this years ago?" I'm very fussy—I want everything to look good. If you do it right from the beginning, everything is perfect at the end, and that's what makes the difference to me.

dewalt tools : Tools of the Trade

When Mike Holmes started his contracting business more than two decades ago—after apprenticing under his dad—he never imagined his passion for doing things right would spawn a mini-empire. Now starting his sixth season rescuing homeowners from reno disaster on HGTV's hit show Holmes on Homes, he heads up eight interwoven companies that employ 28 people, from tradespeople to camera operators to the folks who market his books and workwear.

Dedicated to ridding the world of lousy contractors, he's launched the Holmes Foundation, which will hand out money to homeowners faced with staggering repair costs, as well as skilled-trade scholarships to the next generation of electricians, carpenters and plumbers.

Over the years, Holmes has poured half a million dollars into his personal toolbox. "I've made bad choices, trying to save money," says the 43-year-old jack of all trades. "The difference between cheap and good is strength, durability and longevity. When it comes down to it, you should invest in the right tools for the job." He still gets sentimental about his first drill, though. "I still have it. It's a dinosaur, but it works."

Here he offers a primer to wannabes on how to keep it to code:

Six-pack of Dewalt tools (cordless drill, impact drill, skill saw, reciprocating saw, grinder, flashlight), $900 — "My most-used tools. dewalt tools : 36-VOLT SOLUTION

DEWALT, a leading manufacturer of power tools, announced today the launch of its new, innovative, heavy-duty 36-volt power tool product line, providing users with increased levels of power and runtime, while weighing a similar or less weight than their corded counterparts. Available in 2006, the new seven-tool platform was designed from the ground up for improved durability and reliability to accommodate this much cordless power. The platform will include a hammerdrill, reciprocating saw, circular saw, impact wrench, rotary hammer, jigsaw, flashlight and combo kits. The line will offer users the most extensive platform of tools available in 36-volt power.

DEWALT designed the 36-volt line with the ability to deliver 2-3 times more runtime and 2 times the power of 18-volt tools. DEWALT created its 36-volt platform to provide professional contractors with the performance of a corded tool to complete a variety of heavy-duty applications without the restriction of a power cord. Additionally, DEWALT engineered the tools with innovative features that increase productivity, ease of use and durability.

"DEWALT is committed to delivering innovative solutions to meet the needs of professional contractors and has proven this time and time again with its superior product line. The launch of its 36-volt line of power tools will change the landscape of the industry and change what users can expect from a cordless tool. The 36-volt line will finally provide users with a platform that is powerful enough to get the job done, allowing contractors to cut their cords and achieve true corded performance," commented John Schiech, group vice president and president of DEWALT Industrial Products Group.

To create the battery technology for the 36-volt platform, DEWALT partnered with A123Systems, a developer of a new generation of lithium-ion batteries that incorporate nanoscale technology developed at and exclusively licensed from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The 36-volt battery technology, provided exclusively to DEWALT for power tool applications, has a unique lithium-ion design that offers a high-level of power, durability and life when compared to conventional lithium technology.

The 36-volt line will be officially unveiled to the general public at the International Builder's Show (IBS) in Orlando, FL, scheduled to take place in January 2006. At that time, attendees will have the opportunity to see the tools for the first time and experience them in various applications.

Kenseth on racing at Pocono Raceway:
“Pocono hasn’t been one of our better tracks; especially last year,
this place really hurt us in the points. But, we’re riding a pretty good
wave of momentum right now. Coming off of an awesome win at Dover
means a lot. That was a special win for me and the team and our sponsor
DEWALT because being only one and a half hours away, they kind of
consider Dover their home track, and they had a big turnout. But, that was
last week, and that’s how you have to approach this. Pocono is a new
weekend and a completely different track. You need a lot of grip off the
corners, which are pretty flat, if you’re going to get the big run you
need down the straight-a-ways to make the pass. It’s a unique track
with a lot of room to pass, it’s really fast and I’m looking to have a
lot of fun out there on Sunday.”

Crew Chief Robbie Reiser on racing at Pocono Raceway:
“Pocono creates a lot of different challenges for your team as far as
race setup. I think that’s why you see teams bring so many different
type cars here. Some bring short track cars, some bring speedway cars;
we’re bringing a brand new car that we sort of built with this place in
mind. It’s never tested other than a little wind tunnel time, so we’re
anxious to see how it’s going to work out.”
